Buyer's guide
Ceramic vs carbon window tint in the Arizona heat
In Phoenix, tint is about heat as much as looks. The film type matters more than how dark it is.
| Film type | Heat | Looks & life | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dyed | Lowest heat rejection | Can fade or turn purple over years | Lowest |
| Carbon | Good | Matte look, doesn't fade like dyed | Middle |
| Ceramic / IR ceramic | Highest, especially infrared heat | Clear view, no metal, so no signal interference | Highest |
Darkness isn't heat
A lighter ceramic film can reject more heat than a darker dyed film. That matters on the front side windows, which Arizona keeps above 33% VLT.
Compare spec sheets, not marketing
Ask for the film's published total solar energy rejected (TSER) and infrared rejection numbers, and compare like for like.
Questions for the shop
- Which brand and line, and is the warranty lifetime or limited?
- Will you meter the front windows after install?
- Do you offer windshield heat film, and is it legal for my car?
General information, not a recommendation for any product. Check the Arizona tint rules before choosing darkness.
